Glen Burnie, MD – Providence of Maryland, Inc. (Providence), a non-profit organization that supports adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, announced today that it has entered into an affiliation agreement and integration phase with Charles County HARC, Inc. (CCHARC) to fully consolidate and merge CCHARC into Providence. CCHARC is a Waldorf, MD based non-profit offering residential supports. CCHARC will now operate as an affiliate of Providence under the Providence name during the integration period.

This affiliation provides Providence with the opportunity to expand its support into a new community and adds experienced residential support to its service array. CCHARC and the people they support will benefit from the resources and structure of a larger organization. This affiliation and ultimate merger advances the overall shared mission of both organizations to support people to live their best lives in their communities. Both organizations have been providing services to their communities since 1961.

Karen Adams-Gilchrist, president and CEO of Providence, has been named president and CEO of its affiliate organization, and Joan Miller, chief financial officer of Providence, has been named CFO of its affiliate organization. CCHARC’s former acting executive director Linda Thomas will remain in a consultant capacity. Both organizations will continue to provide the same quality services to the people and families they support and to their communities.

This is an exciting time for both Providence and CCHARC, said Ms. Adams-Gilchrist. This is a wonderful opportunity to bring together our shared values and beliefs, our longstanding reputations for providing supports, and our talented teams to expand and enhance our work for people, their families and our communities.

CCHARC has a team of 83 employees and a portfolio of 11 homes to support people in Charles County. Like Providence, they are a person-centered, community-oriented organization. Providence has a team of 110 employees providing supports primarily in Anne Arundel County.

About Providence and CCHARC Since 1961 Maryland residents have counted on both Providence and CCHARC to discover and live their best lives. We believe that community is meant for all of us, and Providence, together with CCHARC, collectively support nearly 350 men and women to create equitable opportunities for themselves in competitive jobs, to develop skills, and to engage in activities as contributing members of their community, in ways that are important to each person. We offer a wide range of person-centered supports, delivered in the community as much possible, including Employment Services, Community Development Services, and Personal Supports. We are licensed to provide supports throughout the region. With its affiliation with CCHARC, Providence now offers residential supports to adults in the Charles County area.

Charles County HARC, Inc. is a separate organization operating as an affiliate of Providence of Maryland, Inc. under the Providence name.
