Person-First Planning at Providence

The Focus Is on the Person

With the goal of improving the lives of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, Providence’s person-first planning approach focuses on the person and tailors programs and services to meet his or her personal goals emphasizing productive, meaningful roles in the community.

Our unique person-first approach allows people to direct the support they want to chart their future and achieve their goals.

Building a Stronger Community

Person-first planning has gained greater support from providers and government agencies in recent years but has always been a cornerstone of Providence. It has improved the transition of youth into adult programs and the successful outcomes of those programs. This key strategy has increased awareness and outreach, building stronger community support and new partnerships.

By emphasizing person-first planning, Providence has focused on programs that help people seek community employment. Our supported employment program and community partners are key to achieving each person’s goals as well as a good quality of life. Community integration is essential, and being involved in the community is key to gaining a fulfilling life with new experiences and positive relationships!

Supported Employment Programs

Providence knows that every person should have their voice heard in how they want to live their lives and what they want for their future. Through open communication with families and caregivers, everyone receives the support they need to define and achieve their personal goals. Community involvement further enhances experiences and leads to greater independence.

If you know someone who is looking to gain independence with community employment, we’€™d love to hear from you, Or, if you would like to partner with Providence to provide new opportunities to people, give us a call today at (443) 848-2757.
